Election07: It’s on!

[Months](http://www.exasperatedcalculator.com/archives/2007/01/year-of-the-election/) after I thought it would start, the 2007 Australian Federal Election is [finally on](http://liberal.org.au/info/news/detail/20071014_November24AustraliasChoice.php).

This is going to be a very interesting race. John Howard is a master of incumbency, using every advantage of being in government (from the army of public servants behind you, to fears of change, to the bottomless advertising budget). But the polls are a long way apart, and the past few elections [haven’t shown much of a movement during the campaign](http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=6471).

The six week campaign is going to create an interesting dynamic – no doubt Howard wanted some space between the RBA meeting in early November and the poll date. But it runs the risk of causing people to become (more) disenchanted with politics, which would run against the government.

I’m going to be doing a daily election digest from now until the election, with a quick summary of the major news stories of the day. It should provide a good one-stop-shop to escape the sound a fury signifying nothing. The first one will be up later tonight.

41 days until the close of polls.
