And finally up to the ‘all released Trek’ frontier. Spoilers.
As expected, it was a very epilogue heavy end to the episode. The contrast with Discovery is really stark – this felt like a much better integrated, much better designed and much more fulfilling. There’s a nice recap sequence that managed to balance indulgent and earned.
Honestly, sitting at the end of the episode writing this, the action sequence at the start felt just like a bit of compulsory plot mechanics to get to the rest of the episode they wanted. I like epilogues, I like to see the story wrapped up, so this is actually something I’d like more of overall.
And then we get a few minutes of a tie-in to a third season that will probably never be. They draw in the connection with Picard nicely. I hope that Prodigy can live on in alternative media of some kind. But I’m happy with the ending the show got – something that the majority of Trek can’t really say.
