Trekathon 951: Last Flight of the Protostar, Part II

Catching up (to The Greatest Gen podcast that is). Spoilers.

Given the level of ‘serial’ in this show this really didn’t feel too much like the second part of two-parter. But that’s a small quibble in what is a very enjoyable episode. The setup for the ‘sailing Protostar’ is efficient, and the sequence delivers on the promise. Even the ‘Dal learning to be a Captain’ plot is less annoying than usual. And the action is fun Good episode overall.

My only quibble is that some of the momentary editing is a bit janky – going straight from everyone on the hull to everyone inside for instance. Felt like some compromises had to be made in the animation.

(Very) quick hits:

  • Odd to do a recap like this in the middle of a two-parter. No budget for ‘previously on’ sequences?

  • The Beverley cameo is a bit low-calorie. It doesn’t really advance the plot or anyone’s understanding, it feels just like someone wanted a TNG star.

  • ‘Once again recite the plan’ much…

  • ‘What’s the matter’ joke about antimatter, sure. But how do you compress antimatter?

  • For someone who understands levers that is a bad design with the jib. Some levers and pulleys would have helped here.

951 down.
