Trekathon 391: Tattoo (VOY)

Chakotay meets his ancestors’ sky spirits.

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t like the ‘native american spirituality’ stuff here. It just doesn’t feel real or deep enough, it’s a very simplistic approach to a culture. I’m also not a big fan of ‘ancient astronaut’ stuff in science fiction, so the combination of the two was particularly annoying. For the premise it’s delivered pretty well, but I just can’t get past the premise.

The B-story, of the Doctor learning some empathy about being sick, was much better handled. Importantly, it was only as long as the story required, so we don’t have act after act of the doctor whining – one scene makes the point, and the script holds it to that. Well done.

391 down, 346 to go.
