Trekathon 338: The Abandoned (DS9)

Odo raises his very own Jem’Hadar.

There’a a lot of nice character development from Odo in this episode. He’s moving on from being a passive victim, just angry at his circumstances, on to being someone who is now trying to change and grow. But the relationship with the Jem’Hadar was undermined by the fact that they’re just simple killing machines. Quite disappointing for Star Trek – normally there’s a bit more complexity allowed for.

I found the message was pretty depressing. Odo tries to convince everyone that you’re not necessarily the way you’re born. But no, it turns out that genetics are destiny.

338 down, 399 to go.
