Trekathon 168: Déjà Q (TNG)

Star Trek tends to overuse the ‘what does it mean to be human’ theme. While personally I find being human quite nice, it doesn’t seem like it should have to be the be-all and end-all of existence.

This episode subverted that theme nicely with a reduced-to-mortality Q basically finding that he doesn’t care for being human very much. And Q is a lot of fun even as a mere mortal, showing clearly that his attitude isn’t a direct function of his omnipotence.

The Q episodes have turned around – the first couple were pretty dull, but the last couple have been some of the best episodes of the series.

168 down, 569 to go.
