Trekathon 260: Birthright, Part II (TNG)

Overall not bad, but by no means was this a ‘two-part’ story – there was no reason why you couldn’t have told this whole story in a single episode.

The idea of Worf as a prisoner inside this strange Klingon-Romulan society is interesting, particularly the idea of Worf as the exemplar of Klingon society for a change. The conflict with the older generation is well done, and Worf’s influence on the children was quite believable.

But the final resolution was all a bit too simple and easy – Worf isn’t forced to make a difficult choice, and as a result comes out of the whole experience without any real character growth, which was disappointing given the setup in the first part.

260 down, 477 to go.
