Trekathon 174: Captain’s Holiday (TNG)

Star Trek does the action romantic comedy.

It’s a bit of a change of pace, and some quite new territory for Picard. And while I spent a lot of the episode wishing that he’d put his shirt back on, it worked better than I expected. While the Vash character is a bit derivative, she is still a lot of fun in her interactions with Picard. And it did seem to me that this kind of adventure was exactly what the doctor ordered for Picard – he doesn’t seem like the lie on a beach type.

Heck, there’s even a Ferengi in this episode that I didn’t completely hate. Not that I liked him, but he didn’t completely disrail the episode as they normally manage.

The one false note was Riker’s cunning plan to get the Captain laid – just seemed a little bit out of character. And his whole plan rested on the Captain buying his souveneirs when he arrives, rather than at the airport on his way out. I wonder, do they have transporter room gift shops in the 24th century?

174 down, 563 to go.
